Favorite Self Confidence Quote

It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.
It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.

Definition of Self Confidence

Self confidence is when you feel most like yourself. Shedding layers of “who people expect you to be” acknowledging your flaws and working on improving the ones that are roadblocks to you being the best you.  Find your voice and be your own biggest fan.

Her Life Before the Discovery of Self Confidence

Dr. Joyce didn’t realize she lacked self confidence.  She worked out hard to look good.  She studied hard and was very accomplished at a young age. She was always striving for perfection and she had a lot of pride in being perfect.

But there is a difference between having confidence in yourself, and having confidence in your outward accomplishments. Let’s say is she got fat then all of her confidence would have evaporated.

The “AHA” Moment

For Dr. Joyce, Instagram has been so important in her journaling and processing her feelings.

She didn’t have an AHA moment. It was definitely a process as she navigated several “adult” milestones.  She would say when she took over her practice, she had a hard time figuring out the balance of how to promote herself humbly to attract patients.  Her parents had always taught her to let her work speak for itself.  She grew up in a Christian household where it was looked down on to “brag”. Yet self promotion is very important as a business owner. She realized that I had to learn to believe in herself more and not use her parents values as a crutch. It was time for her to pick and choose and form into her own.
Another huge milestone is when she became a professor at USC.

Her Life After the Discovery of Self Confidence

Dr. Joyce is pretty unapologetically herself.  She finds that more people are attracted to her personality because it is not as middle of the road. She finds it easier to know what she wants, and go after it- which is the definition of success for a lot of people.

The One Self Confidence Tip For the Listener

Always work on your self confidence.
Women have it hard because people are always judging you, ESPECIALLY other women. Give yourself some grace. Take control of the things you can, but work on overcoming the things you can’t. There are always haters- let them hate. But if you hate yourself, you are f’d.
