893: Advocating for Gender Equality With Vivian Pham

Vivian Pham is the CFO at oneNav. Vivian has over 25 years of experience in finance and treasury executive roles in a range of technology businesses, from Fortune 200 companies to startups. She has combined her strategic and tactical financial leadership in all areas of finance, producing quantifiable bottom line results and financial strength. Most recently, Vivian served as President at Mirapath, Inc. Prior to that she was VP of Finance and Operations at Olivela, Inc., Director of Operations at Qualcomm Education and VP of Finance & Accounting at Empowered Careers. Earlier in her career, she held senior level finance roles at Zong, Paypal, Microsoft, and Danger. Vivian received her BS in Applied Mathematics from the University of California, Davis.

Vivian shares how going back to work from maternity leave gave her the confidence to pursue her career in high corporate roles and becoming an advocate for gender equality in the workplace.She is also part of the USPAACC WISE, a program intended for AAPI Women that would strategically address core issues and create lasting impact in their professional and personal lives, thus empowering and uplifting them in creating and choosing their own personal choices.

Her Life Before the Discovery of Self Confidence

Vivian grew up in Communist Vietnam where the sons were preferred over the daughters which gave her limitations.  She was afraid of speaking out and not being accepted as her true self.

The “AHA” Moment

Vivian was excited to go back to work after the birth of her first daughter.  When she returned to her workplace, she was informed that her position as Account Manager was filled because of her leave.  She was given a comparable role which was an accounting clerk and was relocated to an office space with the half the space.    This. moment ignited something in her to advocate for equality in the workplace.
