Definition of Self Confidence

Self-confidence is being consistent, being able to continuously show up and speak up and having that innate belief in yourself that your voice matters.

Her Life Before the Discovery of Self Confidence

When Thea moved to America, she had a lot of fears and doubts, will people listen to her? She is not American and her accent is different.  She was afraid that people found that the way she spoke English was weird.

The “AHA” Moment

A lot of Thea’s confidence came from being part of USPAACC.  She is thankful for the leadership of Mrs. Susan Allen, Karin Hung and her other colleagues who really gave her the opportunity to find her voice again.

Last year, Thea was given the opportunity to develop a program which started with a women’s committee of Asian American business owners in 2019. She pitched the idea of WISE (Women Initiative for Strategic Empowerment) and Mrs. Allen liked it.  Likewise Doris Yeh and Carolyn Joshua co-chairs of WISE and women powerhouses as well, have also been so affirming every time she works with them on WISE.

Now, whether at work or outside of work, Thea feels more confident in talking to people, not worrying about her English and just being able to own her space, contribute her thoughts, boldly and proudly.  She also feels fulfilled in what she does.

The One Self Confidence Tip For the Listener

Look for people who will be good leaders and mentors.  Look for a support system like WISE.
