Her Life Before the Discovery of Self Confidence
Jean has always been a go-getter in matters that she cares about. However, there were two major crisis.
First one was that she was named as ‘Ugly Duckling’ during my childhood years. As she grew up, she tried to fight this ‘bad’ name off by learning how to look pretty but self-esteem remained low as she was dismissing compliments from friends and was envious of others while in contrary, she adopted this ‘fake’ confident approach which was really just pure arrogance. This eventually led to another major crisis in my late 20s.
Both career and personal life went into chaos, all in one swoop. It resulted in relentless self-blame and self-criticism. That Jean should not have behave this way, that she is ugly, that she is not good enough. She also resented people easily. Her thoughts were constantly pivoting and negative. It was a self-sabotaging experience for many years.
The “AHA” Moment
There is a saying ‘when you hit your rock bottom, the only way is up’. Jean had to get out of the hole.
Her Life After the Discovery of Self Confidence
Jean’s relationships with friends and family was more positive. She also started to have Mentors in her life who are sounding boards to the problems she faced. They helped her to think more positively and progress through life more smoothly.
She started to engage in competitive team sports such as dragon boat to keep motivation level high. Most notable sports achievement was a number 8 placing in the world championship with the German Dragon Boat Team Singapore crew.
The One Self Confidence Tip For the Listener
-It helps a lot when you have Mentors to guide you through life especially when you are at your lowest point or when you are stuck in a rut. Use criticism from the public as Fuel to improve yourself and likewise, forgive yourselves when things do not turn out well because adversity is part of life – you can’t control what life has got to offer you.
