733: Take Up Space With Georgina Tolentino

Georgina Tolentino is an actress, producer and entrepreneur. She will be starring as Victoria Manalo Draves in a feature-film biopic about the first woman to win two gold medals in Olympic diving at the 1948 London Games. Victoria Manalo Draves was half-Filipino and half-English American during racial segregation when interracial marriage was illegal in the United States. Georgina has been training for two years in diving, gymnastics, and movement to prepare for the role. She studies with Howard Fine in his Master Class.

When Georgina was 25 she auditioned roles that was degrading to Asian women. She didn’t get the role and she was sick and tired of being perceived as an Asian woman being an exotic conquest.

She realized that it’s okay to take up space and she decided to start her production company to tell more empowering stories of Asian women.

Georgina is creating a bigger movement for cultural change in the media on how Asian women are perceived through her production company. She also feels more fulfilled as an artist after creating her production company.
