Favorite Self Confidence Quote
Because one believes in oneself, one doesn’t try to convince others. Because one is content with oneself, one doesn’t need others’ approval. Because one accepts oneself, the whole world accepts him or her.
Definition of Self Confidence
The ability to unabashedly be oneself without feeling inadequate in any way is for me the corner stone of self confidence. Accepting that this is who we are, and we are not apologetic about it, is all there is to being confident. We all perceive ourselves as filled with flaws, real and imagined. The day we accept that these flaws are what makes us unique and we embrace them as our own is the day we discover our true self and that discovery puts us on to the journey of developing self confidence.
Her Life Before the Discovery of Self Confidence
From early childhood, Vinita would always seek validation from external sources. Her focus was always on getting the highest marks, standing out in every contest she took part in and generally wanting to be the very best at everything. There is nothing inherently wrong with this except that she was doing it only to be recognized, not because it was some form of self actualization. She was constantly seeking praise – from parents, from peer groups, from colleagues….and this was
quite needy behavior. She grew up in an environment which had led her to believe that she is no good so that thought pattern refused to go away until she was her my mid thirties. Until then, she perceived life as a big competition. This led Vinita to believe that she had to prove her superiority over everyone else. This was difficult and stressful and not exactly conducive to relationship building.
The “AHA” Moment
It was not a single moment. It was more of a slow revelation which happened over time. As Vinita was able to grow in her career and saw glimmers of success, she felt less need to be validated. She started seeking her own validation. Slowly public opinion started to matter less and less until a point came when she really cared no more. She thinks that was the day her self confidence was born. Also, Vinita attended an executive program at Harvard Business School where she was able to hold her own amidst an amazingly talented and accomplished group of women. This program instilled a great deal of self assurance in her.
Vinita’s favourite author Ralph Waldo Emerson said: To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.
Her constant and daily endeavor is to be herself at all times.
Her Life After the Discovery of Self Confidence
Vinita was riding the wave of success. she held a respected position and had made a mark for herself in the industry. This was just not enough for her and the urge to do something of her own was too intense and she set out to start her own wellness company Amara Vedic Wellness in Germany.
