Favorite Self Confidence Quote
I’ve lived through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.
Definition of Self Confidence
Self confidence is love for yourself. When you truly like yourself and accept everything that you are (imperfections included) you become unshakable. You walk through this world with fortitude regardless of the external circumstance because you know that peace is within yourself and nobody can take that away. Most will eventually follow (to support you) when you lead with such conviction.
Her Life Before the Discovery of Self Confidence
Veronica had so much anxiety and stress, living in limbo where she wasn’t depressed or unhappy but she certainly wasn’t living with a great amount of joy in her life. She spent her days worrying about the next step, feeling like a failure because she was never good enough, especially compared to the next person, seeking validation through external means (ie. academics, praise from parents…), and trying to be the perfect everything to everybody, even to the cashier at the grocery store. Veronica was the collection of opinions that people had of her, she couldn’t really hear herself.
The “AHA” Moment
Veronica’s aha moment unraveled a little bit at a time. There were several instances where she looked back at the work she did and amazed herself at what an awesome job she did. But the funny thing is, when she was in the moment of completing the work, she felt like she was failing or that she did a bad job. Each time she felt like she had to tell the world how awesome she was, almost like…
“see! look! I did a great job didn’t I?”
Like as if the world had slighted her and now she had living proof that she is not a failure. Then one time it dawned on her that it was VERONICA. It was VERONICA all along that didn’t believe in herself and immersed herself in all these negative perceptions of herself. At that moment the glass shattered, then the lessons came tumbling in – through books, yoga, and new people that she met. For Veronica, her lesson was self-love. Sometimes we push ourselves so hard and beat ourselves up so brutally; we grip onto success (or what we think is success) with a death grip. Just like the story of the monkey who put his fist in a jar of jellybeans and got stuck, we need to remember to let go to find freedom.
Her Life After the Discovery of Self Confidence
After becoming aware that she had a death grip on her future, Veronica learned to let go (somewhat). That newfound freedom gave her room to understand herself with much more clarity. She has also truly felt what peace within herself feels like. For her, it feels like the thousand tons of bricks that she used to carry on her shoulder simply fluttered away.
