What’s the worst that could happen?
Definition of Self Confidence
Self confidence is believing in yourself and in your ability. Trying new things because you know you will succeed and being okay with trying because the journey is more important than the end result.
Her Life Before the Discovery of Self Confidence
Janet was a shy kid and living someone else’s life. She became an accountant to please her parents but was unhappy with her life.
The “AHA” Moment
Janet decided to quit her job at age 24. Until that point she was always trying to meet other people’s expectations and she never cared about taking care of herself and her own needs. With the help of a therapist, she decided to quit her job at 24 and she hasn’t looked back since. It really took a few sessions with the therapist before she realized that she didn’t need to follow a traditional career path to make a living. Her therapist asked Janet what’s stopping her from living her dream life. Janet had at that point saved up close to $100K and still was too scared to quit her job because she thought she wouldn’t be able to support herself. Finally the therapist helped her calculate how much a “prolonged trip” would cost and it was less than $5k! That’s when Janet finally decided, “hey, I can quit my job and I have enough reserves saved up to last me at least a few years!”
Her Life After the Discovery of Self Confidence
Janet travelled to Western Canada, Asia, and Europe for 4 months with one of her closest friends. She also did a bit of solo travel. She is now living her dream life and taking her Phd which was one of things that she wanted to do.
The One Self Confidence Tip For the Listener
Focus on yourself first. Don’t punish yourself to a lifetime of unhappiness or unfulfillment just because you feel like it’s your “duty” to appease others.
