Definition of Self Confidence
Self-confidence is about living without fear of being fully authentic for your own sake and your own truth but also to the world around you without apology and knowing that you do have a tremendous amount to offer. It’s also about being okay not knowing how everything in life will turn out, being bold to take a leap of faith sometimes, as it becomes a stepping stone to another chapter of your life that unfolds.
Her Life Before the Discovery of Self Confidence
Amy had a relatively successful path in life, well at least on the surface it would definitely seem that way. Ever since she was young, she was checking those boxes in academics, college, and career. She wasn’t consciously aware of what it meant to have self-confidence or not. Now she reflects back to plenty of times where she would hold back her thoughts and opinions whether it was in college, grad school, with extended family, or in the corporate world. For a long time, Amy was concerned in certain situations about how she would be perceived or if what she said was the right thing to say. She would care too much about those external opinions. She also thinks she didn’t give herself the chance to fully discover who she was earlier in life, to be enlightened enough to become fully self confident about who she was and what she is capable of.
The “AHA” Moment
Amy would say she came to more clarity when she was working from home for the first time in her career due to the pandemic. She really had to take a pause and internalize where she was in her life. It was a journey to that point when she started realizing the impact of all her efforts in life and her career. She started also going deeper and defining what truly was meaningful to her, what made her happy, what made her sad as well. Also having gone through some personal challenges in life can really change you and shift your mindset towards more transformation.
All of these things propelled her and gave her the courage to walk away from a successful corporate career to start her own business and become an entrepreneur. She made the step forward and the decision that it’s her life to define and it was time to take a bigger leap. She knew she could never be fully ready but she wanted to see what was on the other side.
Her Life After the Discovery of Self Confidence
For Amy, it’s eye opening to see the kinds of opportunities that present themselves when she broadened her horizon. The growth she had in learning new things and stretching herself and being able to take more control of your time and energy. It’s also knowing that nothing is permanent and things are still evolving and that is okay. It gives her confidence, and that inner voice is telling her to keep moving down this journey and it’s not a straight line path, which really does make life more interesting and multifaceted.
