Definition of Self Confidence

Self confidence is to accept who you are.  Also you are comfortable being yourself.  When your mind, body and soul align, you’ll feel the ultimate power within you!

Her Life Before the Discovery of Self Confidence

In Ikumi’s culture, she grew up in a “when the nail stuck out, it got hammered philosophy.”  She HAD to fit in.  She had to dress the same as everyone else and she couldn’t standout.  She went to the prestigious women only private school so the expectation were even higher. Everybody had dark straight hair, not allowed to walk with her hands in a pocket, the school uniform had to be 10cm below the knees. There were zero uniqueness! Just follow their rules or you’d be suspended or expelled.

One day Ikumi was called to the principals office just because “You stood out!” Instead of accepting that it is a gift shining in a crowd, instead she was struggling to blend in.

Also the expectation from the family not necessary the direct family but more rivalry thing going on from the distant family how good of a piano player or how did sbe do on the exam to get in to the famous university. This “I must impress!” or “I have to perform and execute perfectly!” mentality crushed Ikumi over and over again.

The “AHA” Moment

Ikumi was challenged by her husband Karl at his event called “Zero2Scale” in Austin last year.  She spontaneously stood up and shared her thoughts in front of the big audience.  She always faced a fear of “What if people don’t understand my accent?” That moment, the advice from her mom flashed “If people make fun of your accent, ask them how many languages they speak. I bet they can only speak 1. You can speak 2! So screw them, go out there and show them!” and she did!

Ikumi always wanted to inspire and help people but struggling HOW! Now this experience made her realized “It’s OK to show imperfect self.  Take them to the journey of her process getting where she wants to be. That’s way more powerful than ‘Look I made it. Here is how I did it’” Because people loves stories. Be the super heroes on your own story.

Her Life After the Discovery of Self Confidence

Since then Ikumi decided to be more authentic, natural and showcase who she really is. By doing that, she gained more confidence by thinking “If you don’t like me or my style, go else where.” This way of thinking significantly helped her boosting her confidence level.

The One Self Confidence Tip For the Listener

Just be who you truly are and be comfortable with it. Nobody is perfect. On the surface everyone is content and looks confident but a lot of time it is just on the surface. If you seek the true self confidence, you must accept your flaws, weirdness and uniqueness. You are the ONLY one exist on this earth. Showcase your own uniqueness to be the ONE!
