Carolyn Lam is a Senior Consultant of the National Heart Centre, Singapore and Professor of Duke-NUS Cardiovascular Academic Clinical Program. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore, completed advanced specialty training in Cardiology in Singapore, and pursued her Research Fellowship at the Cardiorenal Laboratory, Heart Failure Fellowship at the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases, and Advanced Cardiology and Master of Biomedical Sciences at Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN. She further obtained training in clinical and genetic epidemiology at the Framingham Heart Study in Boston, MA before returning to Singapore in 2010 on the National Medical Research Council’s Clinician Scientist Award. Carolyn also hosts a podcast called Circulation on the Run.
Carolyn shares the pressures women face in Singapore especially being in a male dominated industry and how she is able to do it all without the worries of proving herself to others.

Her Life Before the Discovery of Self Confidence
Carolyn grew up in the schooling system in Singapore that was difficult. They had a strict quota for the number of women to be in a classroom since women were still seen as the house wife.
She chose a male dominated industry and struggled with the older Asian generation since women being seen and not heard. She wasn’t happy and needed to scream out.
The “AHA” Moment
Carolyn met her first female mentor who was a mom and world leader. Her mentor made her realized she was able to do all without having the need to prove to anyone. She learned be comfortable to speak her mind.
Her Life After the Discovery of Self Confidence
Carolyn has a more peaceful and is living in integrity.
She still struggles with the right balance and having diversity with men and women.
