504: Dance With Purpose With Ivy Chow

Ivy Chow is the founder of I.C. Movement Project.  I.C. Movement Project is a contemporary ballet company motivated to tell Dance With Purpose With Ivy Chowtruths through the use of professional dancers, designers and artists. Led by Artistic Director and choreographer, Ivy Chow to join the ranks of female choreographic voices. Designed to be project based in the ever transient city of Washington, D.C. As an advocate for the voice of women in the arts, I.C. Movement Project takes advantage of being in the nation’s capital to transcend ideas into action.  The mission is to share and educate audiences on the empowering expression of dance that will enrich diverse audiences in the greater Washington, DC area.

Ivy shares how the lack of female representation in the dance industry has led her to create her own movement to create equality in the industry.

Her Life Before the Discovery of Self Confidence

Ivy had average confidence.  She had confidence when going into performing arts industry and also had parents who encouraged her to pursue it.  Never thought she had the confidence to own her or be a choreographer.

The “AHA” Moment

Ivy realized she was a product of the system and in order to find change, she had to be the change.  Her friends told her to take action on to create the her dance studio.

The One Self Confidence Tip For the Listener

Take a step back and allow yourself to recognize your gifts. Use what’s innate in your abilities and nurture them to get to where you see yourself. Set up multiple goals, it doesn’t make you less focused, but allows you to SEE different opportunities that may arise.
